Jamie is 5!

Jamie turned 5 on the 15th. It is so hard to believe that it has been five whole years since I first held him in my arms, but at the same time it's hard to remember life without him. We sure love this boy!

The first thing Jamie did on his birthday morning was open presents. He didn't waste any time getting right to it. This year we got him a scooter & helmet, a book of Greek mythology, and a set of Star Wars bounty hunter action figures (the one thing he had asked for). Afterwards we had the breakfast Jamie requested: French toast, bacon, and watermelon. Yum!

I stole my sister-in-law's idea to skip a birthday party this time around and let Jamie pick an activity to do instead. He invited one friend (Teague) and we spent the morning at the Muse, a children's museum-esque play place. They had SO MUCH FUN.

In the afternoon, I took Jamie on a birthday errand -- to get his very own library card! He may not look like it in the picture, but he was very excited. It also transpired that there was a program happening at the library that day. Jamie wanted to stay for it, so we did! It was all about chemistry and he loved it.

Later in the afternoon, we went out so Jamie could try riding his new scooter. We weren't out there very long because it was ridiculously hot. He really likes the scooter, but learning to balance is going to take some practice.

Finally, we had Jamie's favorite dinner (tacos), followed by his birthday cake, a chocolate Lego cake. It didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, but Jamie loved it so that's all that really matters.

And there you have it! Happy birthday, Jamie!!

extra pictures

Pictures from the last month or so that didn't make it on to any other posts...

Jacob really enjoys crawling under his crib even though there is hardly enough room for him. Not the greatest picture of it, but I wanted to be sure and capture it.
Jacob eating oatmeal is a messy time.

silly boy got a hold of a marker
My attempts to take a picture of them in their matching shirts devolved into chaos. As usual. (they did not start out on top of the table)
I found Jamie playing in his room with the dinosaurs all set up like this. I don't know what he was playing exactly, but it sure was cute.
Jacob's new favorite thing to do is climb onto the dresser. I can't take my eyes off him for one second.
playing dress-up! love this :)
Jamie started swimming lessons last week. He's unfortunately always the class clown. However, his comfort level in the water has skyrocketed in just one week. The difference is amazing.
Pictures do not do this justice, but one night we had a sudden crazy storm and afterwards the most vivid, amazing rainbow I've ever seen. It was a brilliant double rainbow, and we could see the whole arc. It was amazing. I actually got Jamie up out of bed to come see it, and we sat on the balcony together looking at it until it was gone.
Jamie requested that we go bowling, so we did. The last time we went I think he was not quite 3. We had so much fun! And can I just say, I love bowling with kids because you get to use the bumpers. :)

Jacob's favorite part, ha ha :)
