TWO

Yesterday our little man turned 2 years old! It's hard to believe that it's been two years since we held this little bundle in our arms. . .

and a whole year since this:

Here is Jamie immediately after waking up on his second birthday.

He was very excited when I reminded him it was his birthday, because that meant "cupcakes!" I asked what he wanted to do, and he said, "Eat cupcake." I said, "Ok, anything else?" and he replied, "Eat cake." I again asked, "Anything else?" And he said, "Eat 2 cupcakes." So you can see where his priorities lie.

He opened his presents as soon as he got out to the living room and discovered them on the coffee table. His presents from us included these hand puppets which I made (found the idea/pattern here)

and this set of pop-up books. 

Short digression: I think it was a year and a half ago that Jamie's great-aunt got him a cute pop-up bug book. We put it away because at the time he would have ripped it apart and eaten it. We only recently got it out, and he has absolutely been in love with it, reading nothing else for days. The day before Jamie's birthday, we were at Wal-Mart and as we were leaving, I happened to notice this set of 5 books by the same guy. I glanced at it and then had to do a double take because it only cost 2.97!!! I couldn't believe that was the real price, but that's what it rang up, so we got them! We've already gotten more than $3 worth of use out of them. 

Anyway. 

Jamie did a FANTASTIC job opening presents. It was the first time he has been very interested in the actual opening process. He did it almost all by himself. Then when he had opened a present, he sat down and enjoyed it before moving on to another one. When he opened books, we had to read them right then. When he opened swim trunks, he had to put them on immediately (almost entirely by himself. I was very impressed). It was just the best present time ever.

 

 

 

In case you were wondering, wagons are good for hauling wrapping paper
to the trash can.

  

 

For breakfast, we had French toast at Jamie's request. And if I may say so myself, it was just about the best French toast ever. Yum.

 My mom always made us take a picture on the couch with all our presents, so I continued the tradition with Jamie.

 We didn't make any big plans for his birthday, no party or anything. We just wanted it to be a low-key, fun day for Jamie. We went to story time at the library in the morning (like we normally do on Fridays). He loves it, particularly when they get out shakers and bubbles at the end.

 

  We spent the afternoon at a splash pad. He had so much fun. He loves anything that involves getting in the water.

 

 We had breakfast for dinner because Jamie LOVES pancakes, and we don't have them that often.

After dinner, some of our friends came over to sing happy birthday and eat cupcakes. I made Jamie Elmo cupcakes (got the idea on pinterest). I felt like I had to choose between good tasting frosting and good decorating frosting. I choose good tasting, so it really wasn't stiff enough to decorate with and they could have looked better. But that's okay, Jamie still loved them.

I think he had a wonderful birthday! We are looking forward to seeing what the next year has in store.
